The Concept and Standards of Male Health
The World Health Organization (WHO) has proposed a new concept of health: Health is not merely the absence of disease, but also includes mental health and social well-being.
How can we accurately describe a person's health status? Japanese scholars have proposed the "Four Quicks" of health: eating quickly, defecating quickly, sleeping quickly, and speaking quickly. While these four quicks may seem simplistic and one-sided in their generalization, they provide a clear and vivid understanding. This means that a person with a good appetite, good digestion, quick thinking, and strong responsiveness is generally considered healthy.
To further clarify the concept of health, the WHO has established ten criteria for assessing a person's health:
◎ Having abundant energy, able to handle daily life and heavy work with ease, without feeling excessive tension or fatigue.
◎ Being optimistic, having a positive attitude, being willing to take responsibility, and not being picky about tasks, big or small.
◎ Being good at resting and sleeping well.
◎ Strong adaptability, able to adapt to various changes in the external environment.
◎ Resistant to common colds and infectious diseases.
◎ Appropriate weight, well-proportioned body. Head, shoulder, and arm positions are coordinated when standing.
◎ Bright eyes, quick reflexes, eyelids are not prone to inflammation.
◎ Clean teeth, no cavities, no pain; normal gum color, no bleeding.
◎ Shiny hair, not easily broken, no split ends, no dandruff. ◎ Well-developed muscles, elastic skin.
The Necessity of Men's Health Preservation
Many people believe that men are more robust and stronger than women. However, with the continuous development of medicine, more and more data shows that men are not only not stronger than women, but also have more opportunities to get sick and generally shorter lifespans. This determines that men's health preservation is not only necessary but also realistic.
◎ Men face more hardships than women from the beginning of life. Male fertilized eggs are less likely to survive than female fertilized eggs; male fetuses undergo a more complex transformation process in the uterus than female fetuses, resulting in a higher rate of miscarriage.
Men have lower endurance and disease resistance than women. Men are less resistant to cold, hunger, and fatigue. Statistics show that approximately 30 diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hemophilia, stomach ulcers, color blindness, baldness, and boils, are more common in men.
Men's tolerance for mental stress is significantly lower than women's.
From a longevity perspective, this also serves as a warning for men. In my country, the average lifespan of men is 5 years shorter than that of women.
With the continuous development of medical science and a deeper understanding of men's health, the notion that men are stronger than women has begun to waver, and men's health issues have attracted widespread attention. Many men consider themselves robust and are blindly optimistic, believing they have been given a genetically superior physique by their parents, and therefore do not cherish their bodies. Even more worrying is that many unhealthy men are oblivious to their own failing health, continuing their vices of excessive drinking, smoking, overeating, and all-night partying, disregarding their well-being. Therefore, men should especially learn about health and wellness, which will benefit not only their own health but also their families and society.
